Principal's Report

Over the past two weeks there has been lots of great things happening at Anakie Primary School. Our students have engaged in two incursions, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and the Barwon Water Incursion. Please make sure you check out the separate post about the RFDS, with lots of photos of the students enjoying the experience.

On Monday all students engaged in an incursion from Barwon Water. Our Foundation - Grade 2 student participated in The Wonderful Water Cycle. They followed the water drop mascot on a fabulous journey around the wonderful water cycle, discussing how water moves around the planet. The students were introduced to the main processes involved in the water cycle, and provided with everyday examples of each step to aid in their understanding. The Grade 3-6 students participated in Healthy Waterways, they listened to a story about a family camping along a river. As the family interacted with the river the students added materials to a container of water in the middle of the room (simulating the river). Along the way they discussed the impact the family had on the environment and how the river changed as a result. Check out the pictures below from the F-2 class.

Our Bunnings BBQ was an enormous success, thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to support the school. Next Friday 16th June we are holding our Open Afternoon- a chance for current and prospective parents, and members of our community, to come and visit our school and view what the children have been learning over the term, chat to the teachers, and explore our learning environments. We will be providing a light afternoon tea for those in attendance, with the session running from 2-4pm.

Our Grade 5/6 students participated in their first cooking experience of the year, making yummy quiches - they were enjoyed by the students and staff throughout the afternoon. You can see all the action in the 5/6 Cooking post in this week's newsletter.

We have been fortunate to have a golf workshop for all students during our Physical Education sessions, two weeks completed and two weeks to go. We will post photos in our next newsletter. In addtion to this, students have been progressing well with their learning - each time I visit the classrooms I am blown away by their committment to the lessons, and engagement. Don't forget to check out our events to come at the following link: http://www.anakieps.vic.edu.au...

Finally - we have a long weekend coming up, with students not required at school on Monday 12th June for the King's Birthday Holiday. We trust that you will enjoy some downtime, hopefully the weather is kind and you can get outdoors or enjoy time together as a family.

Many thanks,

Louise Kahle

Bunning's BBQ

A very big thank you to all to all our families and members of the community for your support with the major fundraiser, the Bunnings BBQ, on Saturday 27th May. It was so wonderful to see everyone pitch in and get in the spirit of the sausage sizzle. An extra big thank you to Amanda Denny and Sue Davenport for the enormous effort they both put in - Amanda and Sue were on duty for the whole day, and did the coordination of the event. The school is so appreciative for the time and committment put into the event, we raised approximately $1800 - well done!

Casual Dress Day

On Friday 2nd June all students at Anakie Primary School enjoyed wearing casual clothes to school. Each students was asked to bring a gold coin donation, with money being raised for Exford Primary School. Over $300 was raised by our amazing school community - and passed along to the primary school to support their school community in what has been a very hard time for all involved. The Principal of Exford Primary School emailed yesterday and was extremely grateful to the whole Anakie PS community. Thank you to each and ever family!

Cooking in Grade 5/6

Our Grade 5/6 students enjoyed cooking for their Humanties and Social Sciences lesson at the end of last week. Students were required to chop up the ingredients, including bacon and onion - and there may have been a few tears caused by the onions! The end result were yummy quiches that were enjoyed by all students and staff. Thank you to Mrs Cavanagh and Brendan for all their assistance in supporting the students with their cooking skills.

Anakie Primary School was lucky enough to receive a grant from the School Breakfast Program for some new kitchen appliances to support students in their school cooking classes. We are still awaiting the arrival of these items, including air fryer ovens, blenders, juicers, and other appliances, that will see all students have to opportunity to engage in cooking at school.

Royal Flying Doctor Service Incursion

On Monday 29th May, all students were involved in the Royal Flying Doctor Service incursion. As you can tell by the smiles on the students faces in the images below, they all had an amazing time. The facilitator was welcomed to the school, bringing a life-sized flight simulator, and providing an engaging presentation alongside a hand-ons learning experience. Well done to all students for the respect that they showed throughout the session.
